The Ritz
Carlton - thankfully, a drug company paid for this part.
After four days eating and drinking like royalty, it was time to move
on. Not that we didn't enjoy being pampered.

Diary
Day
1 - Tuesday Anne and Eric drive me to the ferry terminal - Eric
cries, poor little guy. I take the ferry and then the bus to the airport.
Jump on American Airlines flight to Dallas. Service and food is above
average and seat room is great, even for jittery me. Arrive in Dallas
at something like 7:30 pm. I screwed up and booked myself into the Red
Roof Inn NOT close to the airport so ended up having to take a cab a
half hour into Dallas and then need to catch a cab back to the airport
at 5:00 am. So the cheap hotel ended up costing an extra $50 US for
cab fares.
Day
2 - Wednesday Anne leaves our house for the airport at 5:00 am.
I take a cab to DFW airport and then get on AA flight to San Juan, PR.
Met at airport by conference folks and driven to the Ritz-Carlton. Special
check-in for conference folks. Go out for a quick lunch at the Denny's
a block away. Went for a walk around the hotel grounds and then onto
the hotel's beach. Facilities are impressive. Back to room to watch
some TV (we don't have cable at home) then to the reception dinner.
Eat good food, drink too much (not used to it, I guess) excused myself
from chatting with doctors and their wives at about 10:00 pm to go to
bed. Watch TV while sobering up. About midnight, start getting antsy
about Anne's arrival (one of the last arrivals); get up to see if anyone
knows if her flight's been delayed. They tell me they've got one more
arrival to come, must be Anne. She finally gets in after 1:00 am. Long
day for her. She was not impressed with Continental Airlines' service.
Day
3 - Thursday Anne gets up early for breakfast conference session.
I sleep in then take part in the leisurely buffet breakfast for spouses
of attendees at about 10:30. Go lounge by the pool with my book. Order
my lunch poolside (lovely four cheese pizza - enough for my lunch and
then afternoon snack for both Anne and I). Anne meets me on the poolside
after her working lunch. She naps and I read. Back to room to prepare
for evening dinner function. Good dinner, open bar, lots of chatting
with docs and nurses and drug reps (the latter is important as they
are the ones with the expense accounts as we discover later). Make a
final visit to the pool and hot tub before bed.
